Iceland announces Songvakeppnin 2017 dates and format

About a month ago, Iceland  confirmed their participation to the 2017 contest. Now, Iceland’s national broadcaster, RÚV, has announced the official deadline to submit entries for next year’s national final. Those interested can submit their songs and lyrics through the website songvakeppni.is before October 28, 2016.

The arrangement will be the same as last year, with two semifinals with six songs in each, and three songs advancing from each semifinal to the grand final.
The six finalists will sing-it-out for a spot in the so-called “gold final”, where the two highest scoring songs will battle with each other for the title and the chance to sing at Eurovision 2017.
The semifinals will take place in Háskólabíó, on February 25 and March 4. The final will take place on March 11 in Laugardalshöllin, the national indoor arena.
Last year’s national final also took place there — and for the first time — making it the biggest event in the history of ‘Söngvakeppnin’ to date.
After the success of the event RÚV has decided it won’t downgrade the venue and we are excited to see if the 2017 final can match the 2016 final in terms of quality and drama.
